Hub was away at a rodeo on Sunday so I had to cover his barn duties at the Waltrips. After I was finished, I saddled up River and took him for a hack. I honesly don't remember the last time I rode him. It's been awhile! He pranced around with a hump in his back and wanted to gallop off and happily leave me on the ground, I'm sure, but I made him TROT. We walked and trotted around the open field by their house and and then we did a few minutes of work. Oh geez. We are back to the place where I have to do a FULL body, double legged, put your back-into-it KICK to get him to canter. I have one, no TWO words for this state of affairs...dressage whip. Buckle your seat belts.
When dressagetrainingonline.com first started, I joined and watched the videos religiously. Then, my internet onnection at work was slower and slower and it became impossible to watch the videos. I quit my membership but took away a new appreciation for one rider specifically, Catherine Haddad. She is a straight talking American living in Germany and riding horses the right, I mean, the Schultheis way. I like her tenacity. I like her honesty. I like the way she thinks about riding and about caring for horses. I LOVE Catherine Haddad!
I just discovered her blog for the Chronicle of the Horse and was STOKED!! Read all the blogs about how she met Willi Schultheis first(there should be a movie made about it !), you'll be hooked! http://www.chronofhorse.com/category/author-name/catherine-haddad |
