The girls are LOVING the grass.
I jumped Mia yesterday. We cantered some poles, well, let's back up. We trotted over some poles and worked on going over them straight. Then, we cantered some poles. It took her a few times to get her feet figured out. I tried to just sit there and not do much. After she went through smoothly, I worked on her adjustability by asking her to add or take away a stride. Adding is easy for Mims. She's one you feel could canter in place. She LOOOOOOVES to canter. Minor problem when dressage tests have those other pesky gaits. We went on to trot through the caveletti. I thought she'd try and canter through them but apparently I didn't give her enough credit; she trotted through like a saint. Onto the cross rail. HUGE effort. The footing was a bit wet and slippery still so we kept things simple. We jumped a few verticals and then did some bending lines. I chased her into a flier a few times and felt like slapping myself! We went back to a vertical with a placing rail to help us get the distance and, MAN, does she ping straight up in the air when she has a closer distance! She's going to be such a fun little event pony! I need to work on doing MY part (line, tempo, balance) so Mims can gain more confidence and know what she needs to do to have the best jump.
Flo and I explored the neigbor's pasture. They offered us the chance to keep our horses there if we helped fix up the fencing. So, Flo and I checked it out. The fence definitely needs some work :) We walked and trotted around and galloped the hill like giggling school girls. Flo thought it was fun to ride somewhere new and was all ears and eyes and snorts. I love that mare.
